What is it that makes our life unique?  Often it’s the perspective we bring and the life experiences that have shaped us, our lives, and our choice in career ambition. As Executive Director of ACMSS, I would like to take a few minutes and share in my life with you.  2014 marks the start of a new year, a new celebration, and an opportunity to get to know you better and inter-relate.

What life experiences have shaped my life?  I am both a 1st, and 2nd, generation airbag auto accident survivor! That’s right, 2 airbag deployment auto accidents.  Prior to the published data that may exist today, that certainly was not the case back then.  Pathology results confirmed “costochondritis” supporting the symptomatology I was reporting. Two surgeries ensued, relieving the arthritic joints the force of the airbag caused.  No data was known then on the effect to small frame women.  Through tenured research, a learned and keen understanding of clinical informatics, and key clinician-patient relationships, I am seeing the path to full restoration 19 years later utilizing a blend of skills and integrative medicine.

Little did I know the year 1994 would forever change my life and ignite a passion for award-winning healthcare and change. The events spanning 19 years have shaped me into the person I am today. I have used clinical and informatics education, data, and research to piece together sustainable healthcare solutions, both for myself and those communities I serve.  Serving as a voice in healthcare, I have served at local, state, and national health IT committees.  I continually seek the best in all I do and want the same for others.

Through this journey in time, I have come to understand both the importance of a patient’s story, the purpose and integrity of clinical data, and the benefits of an interoperable healthcare system.  Health data exchange and repositories drive innovation and collaboration through research.

Medical scribes, often our future clinicians, are highly-trained individuals with a highly-specialized education spanning across the healthcare spectrum.  Medical scribes enable the conduit of quality skilled personnel to capture and channel meaningful clinical documentation encounters, ensuring first and foremost, patient safety. The importance of credentialed and Certified Medical Scribe Specialists are paramount in the US Healthcare system today to enable real-time medical records, with the national goal toward adoption and meaningful outcomes. Time is a valuable commodity for our people, our clinicians and patients alike – seeking wellness, utilizing resources.

Today is a new day in healthcare, and I am appreciative to serve this pioneering industry of medical scribes, certifications, academics, and training programs for clinicians and patients alike. It brings me great joy to give back to those who have provided care for me and to offer forward thinking and sustainable solutions for the future of medicine, healthcare, and the clients/patients we have the opportunity to serve in this great nation.  I am thankful for those I have, and will have, the privilege to work with.  Let’s ignite our healthcare system together!

January 2016

First and foremost, I am an advocate and I am passionate about what I do with a cause.  I am a Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records (CPEHR), Certified Professional in Health Information Exchange (CPHIE), and Certified Professional in Health Information Technology (CPHIT). I am uniquely skilled in education, expertise, and experience as a specialist in clinical informatics and health and wellness. What has it taken to overcome?  Belief and faith in God, whom I owe my story, my testimonial, and works to.  It also has taken one physician to hear, perceptively work one appointment at a time, to undo my significant injury that jarred to the forefront over time.  I know what it is like to have complete freedoms, to gradual no freedoms – including my body, back toward and into wellness through a faithful move to California to work progressively together and re-enable body mobility when the unexpected injury resurfaced overnight. I never knew I would get well, but I wanted to do the same for others.  Compilation of Electronic Health Records enables the conduit and breakthroughs to getting people, and keeping people, well!

HAVE overcome the airbags  and am experiencing restorative healing 20 years later utilizing integrative medicine/health, and enabling my array of passions, in partnership together.  I owe this second chance at life to Integrative Medical Institute, and to my physician , Gary Ruelas, DO, PhD, for being able to assist me when an overnight theme park ride jolted my original injuries to the forefront. Right then and there, I knew my prayers were answered.  Taking 19 years of research and 3+ years in wellness care, I will continue to stay preventive and proactive – something of my intuitive nature, something we as a nation may achieve together. Preventive wellness is here in America.  What is it?  American’s need of chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and other advancements in clinical care. I am blessed I found a complete center, one of its kind, to assist me; I look forward to the same for our nation and people.  Quality data and outcomes will not only improve clinical care, build a robust 21st century system, and improve technological advances – including such advancements like the airbag – to protect our nation and people!  Achieving our nation’s goals set before us with EHR and Certified Scribe requirements, no matter what each patient or family faces, with a fully electronic system, it will not take decades to reach wellness, improvements, and outcomes – something we may all be grateful and thankful for. Words may not express how important this initiative and endeavour is for our nation and people.

As a nation and together, we enable disease reversal, disease prevention, wellness systems, and innovative integrative healthcare, improving American’s lives day by day. Together we are team. What do we have? We have true wellness systems in Integrative Medicine moving across the country. Our integrative public healthcare system we are building enables disease reversal and prevention through set modalities and key innovations to come, including the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicines for patient care and referrals.  It all begins now, one day at a time, one doctor-certified scribe team at a time, building our 21st century high-technology healthcare system for the people.

Partnering together  at all levels are key to sustainable outcomes and wellness across all specialities and healthcare for patients and clients alike!

ACMSS give back in resource and artistry to our physicians. We will assist all getting back on track in new and exciting ways this country so desperately needs, meeting key regulatory compliance (CMS/TJC) with Physicians through ACMSS Medical Scribe Certification & Aptitude Test (MSCAT) together.  Certified Medical Scribe Specialists (CMSS) enable clinicians to innovate their practice and care models as needed.  Doctors are key to getting patient’s well.  Certified Medical Scribes are a necessity and ensure the patient-centric time and wellness needed in our healthcare system.  Together we are team.  Together we believe, together we achieve!
